Ben Lennon – Richmond #7

imagesBen was drafted to Richmond with pick 12 in the 2013 National Draft after an excellent 2013 season where he played with Ivanhoe Grammar, Northern Knights, Vic Metro and with Australia as part of the AIS-AFL Academy. He spent a week training with the Tigers in January as part of the AIS-AFL Academy and impressed the players and coaches with his attack on the ball and willingness to work hard.

Ben’s main strengths are his foot skills, ability to read the flight of the ball and his ability to take a strong overhead mark. With a big preseason under his belt and fresh off signing a new contract with the Tigers expect to see Ben take his game to a new level in 2016 and be a big part of the Tigers campaign.

Q: What Junior Clubs did you play for and what was the highlight of your junior career?

A: I played for Macleod Football Club and also with Ivanhoe Grammar. The highlight of my junior career would have to be playing in the under 14 Grand Final when my dad was the coach.

Q: Who was your AFL Idol as a kid and why?

A: Anthony Koutoufidies. I barracked for Carlton and he was a bit different to everyone else because he was tall and quick and that made him stand out.

Q: What were you doing on the day you got drafted?

A: I was up on the gold coast for the draft with my family so it was great to be there. After the draft we all went out for dinner with the Richmond recruiting staff.

Q: What has been the highlight of your AFL career so far?

A: Just the traing and being involved with the club and getting to know all the boys.

Q: What are some of your interests outside of football?

A: I like cricket, golf and catching up with friends and family.

Q: If you weren’t playing football what would you be doing for a job?

A: I’d be going to university and doing a business course.
